Race Flow

Post by Deleted User 3233 »

Gentlemen,
There seems to be a race flow problem at the club events. Last night (Thursday March 13) we started racing at 6:45 and didn't start the VTA B main until after 10:00. At this point when I realized that we would not be running the Slash race until who knows when (I heard it started around 10:30) my kids and I decided to pull the plug and head for home. By my math, each round with a 6 minute race time and a 3 minute break in between is 78 minutes. 2 qualifying rounds would be 156 minutes (2.6 hours). With 10 minutes of Main race organization we should have been starting mains at 9:30. My suggestion would be if the club wants to grow it's numbers then we need to run these races in a timely manner otherwise people with children will not participate and the numbers will not grow. Thoughts?

The biggest hurdle to controlling how long the night goes is the start time. The more racers who help with the track setup the sooner we start racing, simple as that.

IMO Its not a flow thing, we need a volunteer race director full time like we had in the past. That spot has been open for some time now. Gary, tice and Jim have been working very hard and doing a great job entering all the names, setting up the races, and trying to get the races flowing as best as possible and still race themselves. They can only do so much. With 50 entries on the club night, it takes time. Like Menor said, if the guys don't have help setting up the track, there's no way we can start on time. You will see what a difference a director makes if you attend the state champs race. If you know anyone that would like to volunteer to do this please let us know. If you yourself would like to take this over we would really appreciate your help. It's very easy to sit and say we need this and that but we need help even more to make it happen.

I agree with the extra help setting up the track it seems that not everyone lends a hand when at the track. Interestingly enough I have asked about running the computer and have been told that there are 2 gentlemen that have volunteered to direct the race but I haven't seen them there. I would be more than happy to help in this area if it means running on time.

Awesome! Thanks for all the help!!

We were talking about some things and it's important that all the club members know. We are going to make an effort to tighten up the program and get the track setup faster. Please make sure if you are at the track, to be helping set up and leave the wrenching for after we are all set up. Currently we are running 7 minutes between races. With our new strategy we are going to try and cut that to 3. If anyone is not ready we will give a racers minute and then move on. These simple things should keep the race program running speedy. Also please make sure you start your battery's right after your run is done. There will be a very minimal break to print the mains and that's it. We will try this on the race after the state champs to see how everything runs.

That in turn is whats wrong with the bigger picture here. Why does 1 need a cut of $$ to help out? Everyone is getting the enjoyment of running.

I am willing to volunteer for this position, the club needs to make a decision once Motorhead is over.

I think sharing is the best, that way you can still enjoy racing. Nothing sucks worse than trying to fix your car and have to announce at the same time.
