Carpet class rules

Post by Eric »

Hello my name is Eric and I have been spectating at a couple of the carpet races over the past month or so. Kyle and Steve have infected me with the motivation to get out and race.

I have a 1/10 stock 2wd slash, 1/18 Dromida MT, and a couple 1/10 HPI 4wd Sprint2 Drift chassis.

I am for sure going to participate in the novice class here sometime soon, but I would like to know the rules/specs for some of the other classes, specifically:

Indoor and outdoor Short Course
VTA
Stock spec slash (if you still run it?)

I only have old NIMH packs for my 1/10 stuff so I would like to order some Lipos but I want to make sure I get something I can use year round.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Eric,
I know when i was looking up VTA info on here i was directed to this site. Not sure if the locals follow it 100% or not, but it should be a good starting place to look up some information.

Thanks Kyle. I came across that link as well and I was figuring I could eventually convert one of my Sprint2's to meet the spec without too much work if I really get into the racing thing. It is a nice clear set of rules but like you mentioned, I am not sure if the local rules match 100% either.

USVTA rules minus the driver figure, basically any touring car, HPI VTA tires, 25.5 Novak/Blinky speedo, 5000 mah battery.

Short course is any 2wd SCT(4WD works but may have to pull front driveshaft)with a 17.5 motor max. Any Battery-speedo-etc

Thanks Nick. I am good on the batteries for right now. I am going to pick up a couple 5000 packs.

So for open short course, is the motor requirement the same for the summer dirt series as it is on carpet? What about the stock traxxas titan 12T brushed motor? Does that compare acceptably well to the 17.5T in performance?

For now, I have decided against building a car for USVTA. I would rather start by putting money into something that can be run year round.

Yes I think the brushed 12t is ok, Shane would know for sure I'll tell him to post here. Open SCT is just that, Whatever motor/speedo you want. Usually dont matter if you have a big motor as traction is limited.

From what I understand there is no open short course in winter. I think Gary put a 17.5 limit on them. I would think the stock 12t would be ok, but i would ask Gary.

Correct. The open SCT I was referring to was outdoor rules. Carpet is 17.5 max

Thanks for the replies guys. I can understand why we would need to slow it down on a higher traction surface. It would be pretty wild otherwise. I suppose if the Titan 12t is too fast I could gear it down some?

So literally any brushless esc/motor is good to go for open short course on dirt? No requirements whatsoever? I assume unlimited modifications as well (tires, wheels, shocks, etc)?

Thanks
