Sweet! There's an axial rtr at hobby town right now but other than that the last two used trucks just sold last week. I'll keep my eyes open for ya Dan

Ok, on a serious note I'm still down. I tried some heavy mods and my hand at machining stuff and I'm not happy with the results. My old chassis needs to be sand blasted/ painted and new skid plate made so hopefully I'll see you guys Sunday!

Hello I would be more than happy to let you test drive my truck. The group meets tuesdays and sundays at enger around 4 or 5. However I am only available on sundays. But chad, chris, mike i'm sure are all willing to let you try. Check out Axials line of trucks if you are looking at a truck vs a whole lot of parts to build one.

Sounds great. If the weather is decent I'll swing by Enger on Sunday. I live only a few miles away.

When I started looking into rc rock crawling recently it looked like the axial truck was one of the more popular if you want a complete kit or RTR. I see the RTR is only about $20 more than the kit and the only real difference I see is the links being metal in the kit versus plastic in the RTR. So, for $20 it seems like a great deal to get a motor, radio and ESC even if they are low end stuff they get you going.

Is there something I'm not seeing, any other difference between the kit and RTR? Seems crazy not to by the RTR for the small price difference?

Your correct. For starting out the RTR would be best because you will spend at least 150 to 200 dollars for electronics to complete the kit. You can puschase all the aluminum links as a kit for 40 dollars from axial. Then the only difference is the motor. The RTR comes with a 27 turn motor which is more designed for speed. The ideal motor is a 55 turn Integy lathe motor which gives you a very smooth powerful take off with out alot of speed. That can be purchased for 20 dollars. Any hop-ups that you would wish to ad later are all compatible with the RTR or kit. Check out A-main hobbies or Towerhobbies to browse or Hobbytown local. If You want to go all out check out the crawler store online. I would be more than happy to share any information with you but check out rccrawler.com for anything you could ever think of for crawlers.

I got a couple things on my truck that need fixing but I should be there Sunday I hope. Nothing a small hammer shouldn't fix.

Bill is spot on as far as where to go and what to buy but I gotta ask, what's your budget and do you have ANY old radio gear laying around? The artr might be your best bet. The tires alone are a HUGE improvement.

I gave all my RC stuff to a friends kids a few years ago. I was into nitro for a while but just got kind of tired of it. More time cleaning and fixing than running.

I had seen some rock crawler clods years ago and thought they were neat but I didn’t realize until recently home big RC rock climbing had become.

My budget is to spend as little as possible :lol: Looks like you can get a RTR and a charger and 2 decent batteries for about $350 which I can do. I could afford more if it would be worth it.

I am thinking of getting the axial but I've never even seen one run so I'm looking forward to going to one of the group runs.

I see Tamiya has a rock crawler now, with a Toyota land cruiser body. Anybody know anything about them? I suspect being tamiya they are expensive but just wondering about it.
