A few of us are going to propose a vintage buggy class, consisting of buggies that predate 1994, but using today's electronics and Brushless technology. I'm starting this thread so guys who are interested can discuss and throw out ideas.

This class is for fun!!!

Just run them in the regular class. There's no reason to dilute an already sparse class with something that is basically the same. On a rough outdoor track the new buggies aren't that much better anyway.

I agree with Gubbs why dilute the classes we already have. I remember one Thursday last year when there was only 3 1/8 scales. We need to make sure the classes we already have are running with enough entries. I could see doing the vintage thing at a special event, but for weekly racing we should stick to the regular classes.

I think the purpose of this thread is to try and find out who and how many are interested in running a Vintage buggy class.
The debate of if we will run it and if it will have it's own slot in the program will be at the meeting on the 28th.
Some of the people interested in the class also plan on running stock buggy so I don't see how it dilutes that class.
If we have time in the program and enough to run them we should. The more entries we have on race night the better, at least to a certain degree.
I have to work the night of the meeting so I'll say here that my car is ready to hit the track and I would like to see a Vintage class.

Instead of my normal rant of late lets just leave the 1/8th scales as they are expensive and hard to get the numbers up in our club... No way around it. Yes I will admit they are fun

A vintage class was proposed because most of our club members already own the cars. Many of them would like a place to run them because the cars are not competitive anymore in the stock classes we run. This will not dilute the class as many of us would like to run both vintage and stock buggy...

There really isn't a negative to add three 5 minute races to the night if we can back it with enough people to race. If we are that concerned about time we should consider lumping ALL gas cars in 1 class so we dont waste so much time with warmups and starting motors for 2 cars here and 3 cars there. The rant can go both ways if people want to complain.

If we have so many racers showing up that adding a class is a problem for people then we should stick to the 4 cars or it doesnt run theory. I can live with that as long as its enforced for all classes.

I do not have any real opinion about having a vintage class, but i am in favor of anything that gets more people racing on a weekly basis. I do question the statement that the older buggies are not competitive in the stock class. I watched Menor run pretty darn good at the (i believe) 2009 Chill On The Hill with a gold tub RC10. I don't think that there is that great of a difference.

Back on track on some sugested rules for this class.

17.5 or the original 27 turn brushed motors. (is there anyone that is interested in being a real classic)
2s Lipo or 6 cell round cells
Blinky mode for the speedo or the three step resistor speedo
Only the original front tires you know the ribs. Not any of the new wide front tires that are out there or glued widened fronts.
Vintage race time length (I have some vintage batteries I would love to get rid of )
Must hand count with stitch counters so we can debate the finish like we used to.
How about 7 cell mod like we used to race. (now that would be crazy)
I would sugest a vintage paint job but Gregs is a vintage classic.

These are some of the things this thread is suposed to be about so lets hear from the classic racers on some of the things I posted and there sugestions on the equipment for this class.

For obvious reasons Lipo's are the only way to go for batts.
Brushed 27 turn or brushless 17.5? I like the idea of brushed for that real "vintage" feel and am more than willing to go brushed if that's what the others want to do but I think most are going to want to run brushless. 17.5 with no timing advanced speedcontrols would work best if brushless is chosen.
Old cars are easy enough to find but old tires not so much. An open tire rule would be best, most will go with a pin in the rear and rib in front I would think.
Green with checkers is timeless!
4 minute races? That would be like only working an 8 hour day, not even worth the gas to get there.
I can't make the meeting, gotta work, so whatever Is decided I will go with, I'm just looking forward to getting dirty.

This class sounds ok to me. Brushed motors ok, or if we go brushless thats ok too. Don't matter on battery. I hope we can get it all straight on meeting night.

I might have to get one. If i do run one, i would prefer brushed with car era esc and lipo. Races would not be long enough to worry about a lipo cutoff. Better start looking for a kyosho ultima (my first car), no bettet yet, a gold tub.

I have a com cutter and all that old garbage so I could make that work but a brushless 17.5 is just sooo much easier. I am not sure that switching to brushed is going to really make it feel more vintage on the track thats what the cars are for? I never raced back in the day though so if there is a desire to make that move I am ok with it and will go with the flow

If it were brushed we need to set a wind and I would like a motor with bearings... something not terribly slow we are talking vintage but you had 8 turn doubles in the day too... not like you guys were slow.

I am strongly against not allowing lipo though. I dont have 6 cells, or a charger for them. I have no interest in either

Lets remember what we just learned with the cooper class... some people can make brushed motors really fast... others not so much

I am ok with either but lets make sure we stick with lipo PLEASE
