On-road track

After talking with a lot of different clubs at the iic and many other out of town races, I have learned a few things on how other clubs prepare their tracks form week to week to cut down on the setup time and improve the racing when having to setup and tear down the track in the same day.

One of the main things that most are doing is to leave the same layout for a couple months at a time. This improves the time it takes to setup the track by a great margin. Especially when you are on a limited time frame like we are at the armory. This also vastly improves the racing by having traction right away and instead of sliding all over for half the night and wearing tires, you will have grip right away and be able to make changes to your setup and actually see a difference on the track.

At the end of the day Saturday, when you stood back and looked at the track you could visibly see a light groove setting up. I marked all of the corners, marked the rolls and rolled up the track backwards so we can now just roll it out and put the same layout down and have a track that is all ready to "race" on.

Gary had mentioned that when we do decide to change the layout next time we will re-arrange the rolls so we can have the carpet set out in a manner to where the factory cuts let us align the rolls for easy taping.

Most of the club members I spoke with thought this would be a great thing to try as a club. See you all Thursday night!!!

Using the same layout will help some of us newbs learn how to drive also :) Thanks for including us yesterday, Its too bad it ran late and I couldn't run the main. Weddings. A question I had, is there normally that amount of time between heats? I think it was 6-8 min at least each time. I would think having the next heat ready to go as the one on track is a couple minutes remaining would greatly speed up the show. Just a suggestion.

Saturdays are also usually all day events so plan on being there untill 6ish. Getting the track torn down and everyone out the door by 5:30 was about right. The Thursdays are more like 4-5 hour events. Hope to see you all again soon!!

Oh don't get me wrong, Normally hanging out and helping tear down wouldn't be a problem. I was just curious if there was a way to have less "downtime" between events. Or is that normal to RC events? Also when is there a setup for thurs?

We try to keep things rolling. We had a few hiccups but not many. As John stated weekend events are a little longer. We used to keep the time in between hearts to 4mn. I think it was set for 6mn this weekend.

Thursdays I won't be there until 6:30 or so. I'll run the computer to keep things moving.

There is a forum for on road racing or just a general electric forum.

Track was awesome last night!! Everyone I spoke with liked how fast the track went up since we knew the layout we were putting down. It seemed like everyone liked having grip right away. In the first heat of WGT I did the same fast lap as I did in the main on Saturday, so the grip was awesome right away for testing and trying different stuff on the cars. All the help at the beginning of the night setting up was great!! Its nice to see all the new faces at the club!! See you all on Dec. 5th
