The current spec class is still being run. The coopers are a demo class this winter for its possible replacement. It was discussed at the meeting to find a replacement. The Cooper does not cost $300 and it is one of the cheapest spec classes you'll find. $125 for the car a body tires esc and motor is a steal. Thursday night the Cooper was the biggest class and still growing.
Yes, it was the biggest class, but everyone that run it quit running a second class because they wanted Thursdays to be "easy" so there was 3 sedans and 4 1/12 scales. If Gary,Jim,Tjack, Mikey and GG thought the same way there would be a total of two classes in lsrcc Thursday night racing. Novice and cooper. The Club is going to last a long time like this guys :lol See you all on the sunday races :D

Just ordered mine from omnimodels on ebay 119 with free shipping. I can't wait to get it. I haven't ordered the shocks yet but for those of you that don't know these are the shocks that Billy told me were approved Tamiya 53619 or Tamiya 50746.

Don't get the 53619, that shock won't work so well on the mini's. Get the 50746, they come in pairs so you need 2. The best thing you can get for the car is bearings so do those first if it's between shocks or bearings.
Welcome to the class, your gonna have fun with this car!

Well I will be a Poop and not buy a Coop. :tounge Irv's right, by the time you get everything to run, your at 350.00 to 400.00 starting from scratch. Now if you got the stuff lying around then it cheaper. Sorry I could not be there thur. I think working for my friend who's in the hospital was more important. I hope to be there for the next race to represent the current spec class. If Joe does'nt have to work he will be there too. Joe and I both feel the same way if the current spec class is finished after this season were done. We both like this class because it's easy to maintane the chassie's. Parts are not hard to get if you LOOK. Just remember, All forms of Racing are expensive.

I like how guys keep bringing up how much the cost of getting into the Cooper class is and then they double it for effect. How much is it to get a new in the box Spec truck? How much? Now I remember, you can't get one because they DONT MAKE THEM ANYMORE! It's not a rip on the truck, they are a great car and a lot if fun to race, but before you say we can find another chassis to plug in, remember, it's supposed to be a Trinity Chassis, that's what the "Spec" part in the title stands for. And if you do figure out a replacement it's not going to be less than the Cooper and come with a body, motor, tires, and speedo.

On another note, I see no reason why both classes can't be raced. It doesn't matter if they are a club designated Spec class or not, if enough people show up the class runs, just like we have always done. The more racers we have the better, but i don't see the Spec class sticking around long if only 3 cars keep showing up so if you want it to stick you gotta come and race.

Greg, How long have you been racing? You should know by now that someone just getting into this is going to have to buy a charger and radio and a few tools, along with the car. So don't go and say that I'm doubling the price. Also like I said there would have been 2 more trucks there but work does pay the bills. One other thing you forgot was that the RJ Speed chassie is allowed in the current spec class. You would have heard that at the meeting if you weren't rippen on the RJ chassie being junk and saying how great the Cooper is. If the Cooper is so great why is there talk on changing shocks? So Be a Trooper and buy a Cooper or Have a need for Speed buy a Speedy.

Roger, we can do this forever. I asked and will ask again, if a newbe wants to get into the Spec truck class and needs everthing to get started how much will it cost him? If your gonna play the money game do it for both sides to be fair. RJ speed chassis $100.00,body $,bearings $,tires $, motor $, speedo $,battery $,radio $,charger $,tools $, I'll let you fill in the blanks. Looks to me the Cooper class may come in as cheaper of the two. If you don't like the Mini Cooper that's fine don't get one. When we talk about Spec classes being cheaper for new racers what were really trying to say is it's cheaper and easier for a newbe to get into any Spec type class than an open 1/12 or sedan type class. Nothing in this hobby is cheap, if you want to race RC cars it's gonna cost you plain and simple.
I know better than anyone what it is like to have to work on a race day. I'm not getting on you personally for not being able to race I'm just saying the class needs some support to keep alive. It's not about what I want or what you want it's about what's best for the club and so far I'd say the Cooper is working very well for the club. Go Coopers! Go Club!
I think the Mini Coopers work just fine with the shocks they come with but some want to change them and that's fine with me, I'm going with what the majority want.
