 What do people think about setting up a smaller track for thursday nights? More like 48'X84' or 32'X72'

I think everything Tom said in the other thread makes sense...

Do you really think a smaller track will make much difference? We were done pretty early last time and we started late? I would think if our turnout was larger and the time was running later we would worry more about saving time?

I am open to whatever everyone else wants to do... I just want to have fun :)

I don't think making the track smaller will bring more people in.

My local club switched from Sundays starting at noon to Saturdays starting at 4! I still dont know why you guys race on the week day... limit yourself with time... and "have to be done, and in bed" mentality idea always floating in the back of your head.

IMO keep the big track. Even though we give Robert a hard time sometimes he has been running a fast program. Not sure what to think about Saturday racing. I think a lot of people would have a hard time making the Saturday races since it's seems like a lot of guys have busy weekends. But, it might work and could be a good thing to get more track time and maybe some out of town racers. I would say let's see what happens this Thursday and if we don't get more entries than last Thursday take a vote to switch one club night to Saturday and see what happens. Like I said "this is just my opinion"!

We finished racing at 10:30 last time with starting late. Time isnt an issue we just need people to bring more cars with them.

Maybe if we took 10 minute breaks between rounds people would decide to run more then one class? If we keep the fast pace that we had last thursday no one has time to charge or rotate their tires...

Im all for a quick program, if there is enough time to get everything ready. My problem with weekdays is even getting done at 10:30 means i get home about midnight and by time i unload the truck and get in bed its closer to 1:00, and i get up for work at 5:00. Plus i have a 9 year old that wants to race, and he has school in the morning. Im not saying that it will keep me from coming most of the time, but there are times that it has. Like Greg said, getting done at 10:30 was early. I would have a better chance of making more saturdays than thursdays, especially in the winter because i dont have as much other stuff going on compared to summer. Should see ya tommorrow.

Hows about only rolling the track out to 84'? That would make a perfect rectangel. My thought at first was to run a slightly shorter simpler track with faster lap times to help set a groove for the low #s. Also this would help save on the cost of duct tape and set up time. = a little more practice time. + a little more walking space on each side of the track is nice.

Don't forget our race dates are already set in stone. Changing race dates is somthing to talk to Gary about for next years season.

Reading all of the posts lately it seems like people are upset about the cooper class, which I don't understand its a simple class and the club is still getting money from them racing. I almost have mine complete and can't wait to race it. In my opinion the club should have one set up as a rental for people to try, if the class dies then just sell it on the website. I doubt the club would lose money and it may get a new person racing if he comes to watch and finds out he could rent one for 10 or 15 bucks with free entry for that race. As far as the spec truck goes I don't have a problem with the class keep running it as long as people show up. I personally wouldn't mind trying racing on saturday. I quit running sedan this year because I don't have the time and after watching the A main at the 724th race when only half of the cars finished I don't think thats a class I want to run anymore, way to much work. I have a hard enough time getting the 1/12 ready.

Since when did things become so dire for our club? I feel like we are standing over somebody in a hospital bed who just had their tonsils out talking about how to split their stuff up when they die.

Letrbuk hit the nail on the head at the end of his last post. The average club racer does not have the time or money to keep a sedan or 1/12 scale on the track. Let's face it, those classes take a lot of time and money to run if you want to run them fast and the faster you go with them the more expensive it gets. It gets harder and harder to justify the cost at the club level. It work out great for sponsored drivers you read about in magazines but they don't pay for their stuff or their travel so it's fun for them , plus they get paid to race. We do this for fun and pay their way too. I never thought the day would come that I would actually consider buying a laptop to bring to the track and tune my car with it! Not gonna do it!
This was my reason for wanting to start a new Spec class, to help our club. Yes it costs money to get into but it costs a lot less to keep it going once you have it.
Let's not panic and let things unfold for a bit and see what happens. I think we started a good thing and hope it works out the way I want it to, and I can only hope others see what this is all about and feel the same way.
It's all about the health of the club right now.
