As of next year here is what ROAR is proposing. Check it out. hot debate and points to a lot of the same concerns that many of our club racers have brought up. Let me just say again I DON'T CARE EITHER WAY. 8)

I don't know what the right answer is everyone has some valid points. Andrew you say it will get more expensive because of bearings, motors, and batteries. Well I would venture to guess that the real fast guys have the best of all that stuff anyways, is your point that without having the timing the slow guys will be even slower. If thats the case I change my previous statement and say stick with the timing. I know I'm not the best driver in the world, but when I have car come up on me like its a mod car it bothers me. I spend as much time as I can making sure everything on my car is good, but its hard to keep up with all the speedo and motor settings.

The most exspensive part is motor/speedo.. to say any combo is fast is hugly untrue.. but when you lock up the speedo timing you can no longer adjust for torque vrs rpm vrs when you need the timing.. you are stuck in a window that you have to hit correct with the correct componets and no adjustment factor.

I realize that I'm neither an LSRCC member nor a 1/12th scale driver....but.... :mrgreen:

If you guys go to blinky 17.5 in sedan, let me know. I'll skip WOW unless there's a mod class then. 17.5 blinky is something I don't want to run, personally.

Sedan is not in the discussion because guys are still sticking with it at our club. We have lost a lot of 1/12 drivers because of the rate in which the faster guys are closing the distance. Again, this is just a problem in our club because they are dropping so fast. I can't count on one hand the amount of guys that have dropped out of or have expressed interest in dropping out of 1/12. Some feel as if all they are doing is pulling over every 3 laps and as if they are almost being chased down by a mod simply because the setting in the speedo are correct. Same problem most clubs and tracks are facing per the president of tekin and others who are following this.

Here's a quote from rctech from the president of tekin:

"We completely understand the need for a slower class and equal power. There is no doubt a boosted 17.5 is too fast in onroad for stock. There are also classes where 17.5 non boosted is too slow, like offroad and the most popular class SCT. We see non boosted esc profiles as a tool we can use to get the right speed in some cases. Any additional restrictions on updating seem uneccessary when the end result of no timing advance in the esc is the only goal, and we have that."

Okay, cool. I didn't know if it was a discussion across all the classes. If sedan will stay the same, then I'm all good. :beer:

At first I was on board with this but after furthur thought I would say no. I do agree stock has become to fast. I know Andrew listed lap times for all classes and with current classes there is a speed for everyone. All classes are seperated by about a second. Now looking at laps completed at the rumble the spreads are alot closer in timing advanced classes than non.


Cooper 1-11. 13 laps
T/A 1-9. 7 laps
Spec 1-9. 6 laps

1/12 stock 1-9. 4 laps
Sedan 1-10. 4 laps
1/12 mod 1-7. 4 laps


I really don't feel taking timing away will close the spread. I do feel that it will depend alot more on equipment and set-up. We all thought Cooper would have alot of close racing when that has not been the case. Top drivers will still be on top no matter what rules are in place.

Now I agree about the # this year in sedan and stock 1/12 as far as MMR is concerned but the losses at LSRCC are because of other issues IMO.

I was not going to post but I will to answer a few questions that seem to be presented here.

The first thing is that John Wiita is the ONLY one that I know of with all the ceramic crap and 1s rotor. The rest of us are not running any expensive stuff as right now its just not worth it. I really have no desire to drop a bunch more money into ceramic this and ceramic that as well as maybe order some new packs to get some really good ones. And lets not forget that we now are going to need pinions a lot of us dont have. That 45 that you ran this weekend, well now you need a 55 so add another $50 in pinions.


You also state that you cant keep up with motor and speedo settings. Well let me tell you this, I changed my speedo once on Saturday and that was it all weekend. Some people like to mess with it but I have seen no value in doing that.

For those struggling I am going to offer this, if you dont know what to put in your speedo come find me. I will give you exactally what I am running at that given time. And being as I basically never change it, it will stay the same most likley. For those complaining about not wanting to find whats fast here is your chance to get it free of charge. And if you dont believe its fast, check out laptimes from WoW in 12th scale, its fast.

I talked to a few dedicated 1/12 guys last night and the general consensus was if we change, wait until the fall. A lot of things can change between now and then as well. And there is only 2 months left.

Sounds like you don't have to worry about it. ROAR has proposed eliminating boosted ESCs and adj timing motors by 2012 anyways.

Sounds like roar has proven worthless. After the fact they want to take away what they have already approved and make everyone buy new equipment.

I got a better idea actually tech people when they walk through your line and make sure your roar official knows how to check for blinky mode... I had to watch bullet ask a roar member in line how to know if his speedo was right at the offroad nats and he didnt even know. It is not that hard to check the notch for timing on the motor, after your motor has been teched and blinky mode.

I may not be a good enough driver for mod but looks like thats where im going next year :)

Those were not ROAR officials. They were track employees. In omaha the ROAR officials were great. Mod all the way greg!!! All you need is a 7.5
