Motor change for slash class?

Interested in everybodys input that runs the stock slash class about changing the motor rule? We now run a 12t titan and Tice and I where talking about trying to go brushless on a budget. I contacted Castle and they recomended the Sidewinder SC and they have a retail of $120.00 but I have seen them on e-bay for around $100.00 Castle says if I know how many people where going to switch I could contact the sales department and they would try to give us a deal. What does everybody think?

I don't run the slash class but I don't agree with a motor change. The reason for this class is so someone can go to the hobby store pick up a truck and race that day without feeling at a disadvantage. If you start adding $100 to the cost some people might decide not to race, also we have a open short course class that you can run anything in. This is just my opinion but we have yo keep at least one class cost controlled.

I run the stock slash class and I like it left stock. I also have a open slash. You want to spend another $100 - $200 bucks, go run the open slash class. There you can change motor,speed control, tires ,a-arms, shocks, chassies and whatever. My open slash is a mod-rustler. I made the chassie longer to match the wheel base of a slash. Put a slash body on it and all the crash bars. A 19t motor and after market tires. Next will be shocks and maybe a-arms.

I agree with Double Trouble. stick with the stock system. I think the tire option is MORE than enough. If you are the person who is looking to dump extra money into a slash, then open SCT is the class for you

Maybe slash should be left stock, you can buy 5 motors for the price of an upgrade, tires are probably the single biggest option on a slash and we do allow that. My personal thoughts for the summer was to change electronics in the slash and run short coarse with that. And we have several "novices" that should consider running the "slash" class this summer. Keeping stock slash would save Mom and Dad some bucks there. If you have an opinion lets hear it, Pro's and con's.............

Kit speedo and 12t motor only. If you clean your motor and oil the bushings every race day the motor will last much longer.

The Slash and Mini classes are popular and affordable. Leave them as is.

as much as with keeping it stock, new slashes come with the velineon brushless setup, such as my slash came with a 7 cell instead of a 6... as the technology changes some other things may have too also eventually... i wouldnt agree to it this year, but it is probly something that sometime relatively soon will need to change... if it does change though, i would have to say to keep it as stock as possible, meaning only allow the cheapo velineon setup, its only $130 to upgrade to it for current people, unless you find a used one... word of caution, watch out for bad batches of sppedos though....

Traxxas still makes the slash with the 550 motor. #5802, #5803,& #5805. The only thing different in these 3 kits is radio,battery, charger,& a different colored body. The one you got is #5807. Slash VXL that is a brushless system. So you can run in the slash open class.

Not a bad idea to just leave things the way they are for now. It always helps to hear other racers thoughts are seeing that it is kind of a starter class and on a budget.

The intent is not for it to be a "starter" or novice class, it is a "spec" class that is easy for all racers who want to run a "basic" type class to get into.
