Re: Mini Cooper Thread

Post by RCRacing »

My issue with all of this is last year at the meeting, the Mini Cooper was suggested to be a spec class that would be cheap for someone to get into, buy a kit, add your radio and your ready to race. One of the selling points was Hobbytown would stock motors, tires, parts, etc. Then during the season, "hey, oil filled shocks would be nice", and "i need new tires, the Sweeps are cheap and work nice", now "i am burning up some motors, lets go brushless". I do not dispute that these are all good upgrades for the car, but we are getting away from the original purpose of the class. Whats next, someone breaks an a-arm, now we allow aluminum hop ups? Spending $60 on a esc/motor combo is not my concern, $60 is nothing compared to what we spend on this sport, but what happens if a couple of guys burn up brushless motors, now lets run a Trinity D3, or smoke a couple of esc's, can i just use my Tekin? Is Hobbytown going to stock the brushless motor/esc we use? Answer: No. Don't forget that this car was the potential replacement for the Spec truck because chassis, parts, motors are getting harder to find, but right now that class is doing well.

Gary nixed this as a spec truck replacement. That is when we started making changes and called it a provisional class. This is officially its own class and would not be considered a spec truck replacement.
- he has cars he has looked at to replace that chassis if it ever comes to that. (Or add to run with that chassis)

Those are all very valid concerns if this was a spec truck replacement. I think I understand a little more where you are coming from hearing this. When we started those were all things we brought up. I agree looking at all the changes in a short time it seems like a lot... but we are making changes with a car that we had not used before and determining what we wanted... that was the point of last years provisional deal. Honestly I want to see this class as something that is run for 5 years without changing or even 10... Its a fricking mini cooper that is the point stability and I do understand that is what people want. This is not a pure race car like some of the other classes we have like 1/12 and sedan... We should expect stability in the class and not have changes going forward.

Like menor said whatever the group decides I am fine with. I run this class because its a fun car to drive brushed or brushless I just like the low maintenance idea. I do think what is decided this year is the way it has to stay though, or the class will never grow. This is not a provisional thing anymore and if we really want to see it as a permanent class we need to set the rules and follow them.

Hobbytown will not carry the motors however you may be able to get them to order one for you. The best solution would be a group buy for everyone... I would be willing to make the original purchase for everyone like I did with a few mini coopers when we started this.

The only two that have said they do not want to see this is rcracing and letrbuk... I do think that 2 people is enough to hold this up at least for me though so if the two of you really don't want to run brushless I say we stay brushed. You decide. Someone should check with Tice too he hasn't replied.

Greg

I'm tired of arguing with you. I said in a previous post that if the majority decided to go brushless I probably would too. I'm not going to be the one guy that keeps everyone from going brushless, when I know I won't be able to make all the races. As far as Rcracing I don't think he plans on running the class he was just trying to make a point like I was that the club needs a class for new people coming in.

So go ahead and order your brushless stuff for the time being I'm going to sit back and see how these systems work before I change anything.

I just have my opinion and gg has his. But I will say this at the last crawler event I was at in taylors falls there was 2 guys talking about getting a Cooper. But when they heard me talking to Billy about the brushless system I think that turned them off a little bit, oil filled shocks and bearings are fine. Because running bearings and oil filled shocks improve the car. I don't think the brushless system is really an improvement over what they come with. I've said it over and over we need a class that people can go to Hobbytown and pick up everything they need to run, so it's easy to get new people involved.

way to scare people away Kevin! :smash :lol sorry just poking fun. this class is new to us, and its no doubt poeple are going to want to try new things. I enjoy driving the car, and im not worried about rules at this point. Personally, I plan on running my cooper just as i ran it last season.

This is in reference to the posts here...

Letrbuk you have bashed me just about everywhere and its getting old. You tell me your done fighting then send me facebook messages and keep posting about GG? If you don't want to fight why do you keep going? I answer someones question on an mmr thread and tell them we are looking at brushless and it wont be decided until the meeting and you get on and argue. This is old grow up!

You want to stay brushed that's fine. We will talk at the meeting? What else is there to talk about? I have said this a number of times but I don't care. I like 1 way because of less maintenance and the cheaper overall cost... that's it. I will run brushed with everyone else and be just as happy if that's what is decided AT THE MEETING.
