New guy needs a little help!

Post by kc9ljo »

Hi all,
I'm real new to rc stuff, at least big boy rc stuff. Anyway, I got a used sc10 with no rx/tx, I have two different receiver radio combos so I though how hard can it be. Well for the life of me I can not get either to work. I am wondering if there is anyone near me (I'm in Ashland) that might be able to help me get this up and running? Or I am planning on bringing my boys to the races on the 20th/21st of this month, maybe I could find some guidance there? Thanks!

Great to see new people interested in the club! As for your problems? I'm not aware of anyone in close proximity to you that could give you hands on help. There are a lot of potential variables in your particular situation, ie. battery, receiver/remote, wiring to troubleshoot via text. However if you show up at the track there will be plenty of knowledgeable people that will be more than happy to lend a hand to get you on your way. Or check out youtube or google it. There is plenty of useful online help.

In my opinion if you are thinking of racing when you come up, you should at least make sure your car is functional before making the journey to Proctor. I would hate to see you drive all that way to find you aren't able to run because of an equipment issue. But as I said there is plenty of help to be found at the track and If you are willing to take the chance most likely your issues would be solved.

That weekend you are looking at coming up (20th and 21) is actually a nitro series race. It's a very big weekend with racers traveling from all over to compete. It would be a great opportunity for you and your boys to see what RC racing is all about. There is even a sportsman class for new comers to race in. It would be a great opportunity to meet with club members and get an idea of what to expect.

Hope this was helpful.

What radio are you using? I can walk you through setup, but need to know what your using. Ch1 of the RX is for the servo, Ch2 is for the ESC. Fill in the details, perhaps even snap a pic and there are a bunch of us that will chime in.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm not planning on racing when I come up, just going to watch, and I'll probably bring the sc10 and if someone can help that would be great. As for rx/tx gear I have a Flysky FS-GT3C and Associated XP2G radios and I have receivers for each. Also the truck has speed passion esc and motor. I have googled and youtubed and I have found a couple different ways of doing it none of which have worked. I'm pretty sure I'm overlooking something, any help is much appreciated.

When you plug it all up and hit the power button are you getting anything to turn on? Starting simple, is your battery charged?

Batteries are charged. I haven't even got to the point of turning it on yet actually. I have not been able to link the rx and tx. When I look into it it seems like people have and the same problem as I have with the flysky, and doing it by the book doesn't work so there are alternate ways that are supposed to work but I get nothing either way. One time when I tried it the front wheels twitched but I couldn't get anything else. Since then I have not even been able to duplicate that. I've pretty much given up on it for now. Hoping I can find some help when I come up Saturday for the races.
